MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team brings home four first place medals after a stellar performance at the YSU Collegiate Invitational on Friday evening in Youngstown, Ohio.
The first gold medal of the day was snagged by sophomore Izayah Everett, who boasted a personal best time of 25.26 seconds in the women’s 200 meters at the Watson and Tressel Training Site. Everett’s finish was followed by classmate Lily Haught in third place, who ran for a time of 25.34. Junior Sierra Heisey finished next with a career best time of 26.63, while sophomore Mae Nelson chalked up a season best time of 27.13. Senior Eden Williams rounded out the event, with a personal best performance of 27.40.
Next, graduate student Madison Trippett took first in the women’s 800 meters, with a time of 2:10.25. Redshirt freshman Mary Delaney followed behind in third place, earning a 2:14.94 finish.
Sophomore Kishay Rowe earned the Mountaineers next gold medal, after taking the win in the women’s 400 meters with a time of 56.63. Haught finished second, running for a time of 57.01 while freshman Carlene Temple claimed third with a 57.92, respectively.
The event wins were rounded out by sophomore Eva Rinker who claimed gold in the women’s mile with a career best time of 5:02.28. She was trailed by freshman Chiara Judis, who landed in fourth place with a time of 5:10.27.
Redshirt sophomore Olivia Cress had a career outing in the women’s 60-meter hurdle finals, claiming fifth place with a time of 9.09.
Everett went on to earn another career best time, after finishing sixth in the women’s 60 meters with a time of 7.78. She was joined by freshman Sabria Jones, who claimed 7th place in the event with a personal best time of 7.90.
Senior Abigale Mullings and sophomore Victoria Marston tied for second in the women’s high jump, collecting season best marks of 1.61 meters.
Additionally, Jones earned her second personal best finish of the night after taking third place in the long jump, leaping for 5.58 meters.
Next, the Mountaineers continue competition on Saturday at the Nittany Lion Challenge in University Park, Pennsylvania. The meet is set to be held at the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track and will begin at 10:10 a.m. ET.
