MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team lost to William and Mary, 5-2, on Sunday at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The loss marked West Virginia’s (2-4) fourth straight. The Mountaineers struggled early as they failed to find consistency in doubles play.
The pairing of senior Mille Haagensen and freshman Lyla Byers won in the No. 1 seed match but were the only doubles pair to win for West Virginia.
In singles play, freshman Laura Villanueva Morillo and redshirt junior Maja Dodik were the only ones to win for WVU.
Villanueva Morillo beat William and Mary’s Ine Stange in the No. 4 seed match, 6-1, 6-1. Dodik battled in three sets with Sia Chaudrey, eventually winning, 6-3, (4) 6-7, 1-0 (7).
