MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with the Big 12 Conference, has announced the 2025 football schedule.
“Now that the football schedule has been completed, our fans can finalize their travel plans and make final preparations for Mountaineer football this fall,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. “When you play in the Big 12, the schedule is always going to provide great competition, and the excitement and anticipation for the season and Coach Rod’s return to the West Virginia sidelines are already in high gear.”
The schedule includes six home dates, featuring four conference games and nonconference matchups with Robert Morris (Aug. 30) in the season opener and the 108th “Backyard Brawl” against Pitt (Sept. 13), WVU’s longest-running series. This year’s game marks the second time the two schools have played in Morgantown since 2011.
“This year’s schedule showcases an exciting slate of games for our program and fans,” WVU football coach Rich Rodriguez said. “The Big 12 is as tough as anywhere in the country. Our players and coaches know we have a lot of work to do in our winter conditioning, spring practices and summer camp to prepare for this year’s season.”
Even though the Mountaineers have faced Utah and Colorado in past years, WVU will play host to the Utes (Sept. 27) and the Buffaloes (Nov. 8) for the first time as Big 12 opponents. This will mark the third meeting with Utah, the first at Milan Puskar Stadium and the first time the two have played since 2017’s Heart of Dallas Bowl. The Mountaineers split a home-and-home series with Colorado in 2008 and 2009, with the home team winning in their only previous meetings.
After being absent from the schedule last year, TCU makes a return for Homecoming on Oct. 25, while Mountaineer Week will be celebrated against Colorado.
WVU travels to Ohio on Sept. 6. The Mountaineers and Bobcats meet for the first time since 2001. After facing Kansas at home in 2022 and 2024, the Mountaineers will travel to Kansas on Sept. 20, playing in Lawrence for the first time since 2021.
BYU (Friday, Oct. 3) and Houston (Nov. 1) return to the schedule, both on the road. The Mountaineers will play in Provo, Utah, for the first time. A road date against UCF on Oct. 18 and TCU separate the BYU and Houston games, as the Mountaineers will face the Knights for the third straight year.
WVU will travel to Tempe, Arizona, on Nov. 15, to play Arizona State, last year’s Big 12 Champion, for the first time since facing the Sun Devils in the 2015 Cactus Bowl at Chase Field in Phoenix. After their second open week, the Mountaineers will close the regular season at home for the first time since 2018, playing Texas Tech on Nov. 29.
West Virginia’s Big 12 Conference home dates are Utah (Sept. 27), TCU (Oct. 25), Colorado (Nov. 8) and Texas Tech (Nov. 29). Road conference games are Kansas (Sept. 20), BYU (Friday, Oct. 3), UCF (Oct. 18), Houston (Nov. 1) and Arizona State (Nov. 15). The 2025 schedule does not include Big 12 Conference games against Arizona, Baylor, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas State and Oklahoma State.
The Big 12 Football Championship game is slated for the first week of December at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and will be announced at a later time. The times and television lineup for the 2025 schedule will be announced at a later date.
New season tickets for the 2025 campaign are on sale now. Season tickets are priced at $380, a savings of more than 10% off the single-game price, for the Mountaineers’ six home games. To purchase new season tickets, CLICK HERE.
