MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team is ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll, the organization announced.
Alaska Fairbanks is No. 2, Kentucky is No. 3, Georgia Southern is No. 4 and TCU rounds out the top five with a No. 5 ranking. The poll is determined based on an average of each team’s top three scores during the season.
Joining West Virginia and Kentucky from the GARC in the poll are the No. 9 Navy, No. 11 Akron, No. 13 Memphis and No. 14 Army.
West Virginia is a perfect 9-0 on the season and has run their regular season win streak to 22 straight matches. WVU has defeated six ranked opponents this season, including two of the top five teams in the country in Georgia Southern and TCU.
West Virginia’s 4740.2 aggregate score is the best in the nation. The 2355.1 mark in smallbore is also the best while the 2385.1 in air rifle sits second. Sophomore Griffin Lake is averaging a team-leading 1186.2 aggregate average which is the sixth-best in the country. Senior Natalie Perrin averages a 596.5 in air rifle, the eighth-best mark in the country. Lake’s 590.3 in smallbore is the fifth-best average this season.
