For the Green Bay Packers to maintain any hope of winning the NFC North, Thursday’s game at the Detroit Lions is an absolute must-win. The Lions are a small home favorite in this Week 14 headliner.

How to watch Packers at Lions

The Lions’ biggest concern at this point is mounting injuries on the defensive side of the ball. Along with superstar edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, who is out for the season, five other defensive players are on this week’s injury report, including three more defensive linemen.

That could be an issue against a Packers offense that has scored at least 30 points in three of the past five games, including each of the past two games. Running back Josh Jacobs is really starting to hit his stride as he closes in on 1,000 yards for the season. He has 523 yards over the past six games and has averaged more than five yards per carry in three of those games.

Given the Lions’ injury issues on defense, as well as the fact both offenses are in the top eight in terms of points per game (Detroit is first, Green Bay is eighth), Thursday’s matchup is likely to be a high-scorer. The total of 51.5 is the highest of any game in the NFL this week. It is worth pointing out, however, that neither team has consistently hit the over this season, with each of them hitting the over in just five of their 12 games.

The Lions won the first meeting of the season, 24-14, in Green Bay a few weeks ago. Winning on Thursday would give them back-to-back 12-win seasons for the first time in franchise history. It would be just the third 12-win season for the team overall.
