MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 22 West Virginia University wrestling team is on the road Friday, Jan. 17, to face the No. 20 Oklahoma Sooners in a major conference road test at 8 p.m. on ESPN+ at McCasland Field House in Norman, Oklahoma.

“We’re headed to Oklahoma to wrestle two great teams,” head coach Tim Flynn said. “It’s another opportunity for our guys and team to earn some ranked wins.”

West Virginia (7-3, 1-2 Big 12) has lost two straight matches to ranked opponents after hosting No. 13 Iowa State (Jan. 8) and No. 18 Pitt (Jan. 12).

Fifth-year No. 3 Peyton Hall leads the Mountaineers at 20-0 this season in the 165-pound weight class. Against Pitt, Hall won his 120th career match, tying him for second all-time in program history for career wins.

Senior No. 13 Jett Strickenberger pulled off back-to-back ranked victories against Iowa State and Pitt. With those wins, Strickenberger shot up the individual rankings from FloWrestling, sitting at No. 13 in the 125-pound weight class.

The Mountaineers have only defeated the Sooners twice in a series that dates to 1986. West Virginia’s last victory came in 2018 in Morgantown.
