MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 21 West Virginia University wrestling team lost to No. 5 Northern Iowa, 29-10, on Saturday night at the WVU Coliseum.
West Virginia (8-6, 2-5 Big 12) lost its third consecutive match and fell to 1-5 against ranked opponents this season.
The night began with senior No. 10 Jett Strickenberger defeating No. 22 Trever Anderson by decision, 10-5. This marked Strickenberger’s fifth consecutive win against a ranked opponent.
Northern Iowa rattled off four wins to take a commanding lead heading into the 165-pound match.
Fifth-year No. 3 Peyton Hall put on a show against No. 18 Jack Thomsen, winning by major decision, 15-2. Hall scored four takedowns en route to his eighth win against a ranked opponent this season.
Following Hall, redshirt sophomore No. 30 Brody Conley matched up against No. 16 Jared Simma. A late escape and a takedown secured the upset for Conley as he won by decision, 8-5.
Northern Iowa secured the win, defeating the Mountaineers in the final three matches.
