MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In front of the eighth-largest crowd in WVU gymnastics history, the West Virginia University gymnastics team recorded a season-high 195.475 in a tri-meet against No. 2 Florida and No. 4 Utah inside the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown on Sunday afternoon.

The Mountaineers used season-high totals of 49.225 on floor exercise and 49.0 on balance beam to record their first 195.0+ score of the season. WVU also tallied scores of 48.575 on vault and 48.675 on the uneven bars on its way to hitting 24-of-24 routines for the first time this year.

The No. 2-ranked Gators took first place in the meet, scoring a 197.575, while No. 4 Utah placed second with a 197.425.

Of note, a crowd of 2,798 fans were present to watch the Mountaineers take on a pair of nationally ranked opponents on Sunday, marking the eighth-highest attendance in WVU gymnastics history. Furthermore, the total was the program’s second-best regular season attendance, excluding the Beauty & the Beast meets with the WVU wrestling team.

Competing in Olympic order for just the second time this season, West Virginia started strong on vault, with a pair of 9.775’s from sophomore Jurnee Lane and freshman Karleigh DiCello leading the way. The scores marked a career high for DiCello, while Lane recorded her first career performance on vault. Freshman Sophia Rice scored a 9.7, while junior Carlee Nelson was just behind her with a 9.675. Freshman Taylor Tuohy completed the opening rotation with a career-best 9.65.

On bars, fifth-year senior Trinity Macy’s stuck dismount helped lead the Mountaineers with a 9.8, while sophomore Amber Lowe also recorded a stick for a season-best 9.775. Senior Anna Leigh earned a 9.75, followed by a 9.725 from Alban. Sophomore Jayden McDonnell’s 9.625 rounded out the bars scoring.

West Virginia was fantastic on beam, hitting six-of-six routines for the first time this season. Sophomores Kaylei Adams and Julia Brown paced the rotation with impressive, season-high 9.85’s, while Lane also hit a season best with a 9.825. Lowe scored a 9.75, followed by a 9.725 for DiCello to cap an impressive beam rotation.

The momentum continued on floor, as all five scoring gymnasts tallied a 9.8 or higher for the first time this year. Leigh’s 9.925 led the way, as she scored her second 9.9+ score on floor this season and was just shy of her career high. Lane followed with a season-best 9.85, while Alban and freshman Emerson Smith scored matching 9.825’s. Freshman Riley Maness reached a career-best 9.8 to complete the meet for the Mountaineers.

Lane recorded her first-ever performance on the all-around on Sunday, reaching a 38.975 total on all four events. The score was good for sixth place out of seven opposing gymnasts also competing on the all-around. Elsewhere, Leigh tied for second place in the final standings on floor.

West Virginia now hopes to carry this momentum into next weekend’s Big 12 Conference battle with Iowa State, as the Cyclones come to Morgantown on Sunday, Feb. 9. Competition inside the WVU Coliseum is tabbed for 2 p.m. ET, and it’s the Mountaineers’ annual Pink Meet for breast cancer awareness. It also will be the first-ever WVU Greek Meet, as well as the team’s Black History Month Celebration.
