MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team was picked fourth in the 2025 Big 12 Baseball Preseason Poll as voted on by the league’s head coaches. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team.

It is the highest predicted finish for WVU since joining the Big 12 in 2013.

Junior catcher Logan Sauve represented the Mountaineers on the All-Big 12 Preseason Team. In 2024, Sauve hit .308 with eight home runs, 37 RBI, and 42 runs scored. Behind the plate, he threw out nine base stealers and had a .992 fielding percentage.

The Mountaineers are coming off a historic 2024 campaign in which they finished 36-24 and reached the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time. First year head coach Steve Sabins looks to lead WVU to a regional appearance for the third straight season.

Oklahoma State was selected as the preseason favorite, receiving nine first-place votes. Newcomer Arizona followed in second with four first-place votes while TCU had one first-place vote and slotted in third. Following WVU was Texas Tech, Arizona State, UCF, and fellow 2024 Super Regional team Kansas State. Kansas, Cincinnati, Houston, Utah, Baylor, and BYU rounded out the poll.

Nolan Schubart of Oklahoma State was named the Preseason Player of the Year while Dominic Voegele of Kansas earned Preseason Pitcher of the Year honors. Houston’s Cade Climie and TCU’s Noah Franco were named Preseason Newcomer and Freshman of the year, respectively.

The 2025 season kicks off on February 14 when West Virginia begins a four-game series at Jacksonville.
