DENVER, Colo. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team (1-2) prepares to open the Big 12 Conference portion of its schedule with a matchup against No. 16 Denver on Sunday, Jan. 26. Competition inside Magness Arena in Denver, Colorado, is tabbed for 4 p.m. ET.
 
The meet will be streamed live on Midco Sports Plus, while live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
 
Denver enters Sunday’s competition with a 5-1 overall record in 2025, while the squad will open Big 12 action along with the Mountaineers. The Pioneers are coming off a second-place finish in a tri-meet against No. 17 Arkansas and Texas Woman’s on Jan. 20.
 
West Virginia and Denver last met in the 2024 Big 12 Championship in Norman, Oklahoma. DU took second place with a 197.975 team total, while WVU finished in fifth with a 195.125. WVU and Denver also met in a tri-meet with Iowa State during the regular season last year. The Pioneers claimed a 197.35-195.25 victory in Morgantown on Feb. 18. Sunday’s matchup marks the first of two scheduled competitions between the Mountaineers and Pioneers this season. The two teams will face one another again in the 2025 Big 12 Championship, hosted in West Valley City, Utah, for the first time.
 
In this week’s Road to Nationals rankings, the Mountaineers rank No. 53 overall in the third rankings of the 2025 season. Their highest event ranking is on floor, where they sit No. 30 with a season average of 48.85 on the event. Additionally, West Virginia is No. 5 in the southeast region and No. 6 in the Big 12 on floor. Elsewhere, WVU ranks No. 40 nationally on bars, as well as No. 5 in the conference and No. 8 in the region on the event.
 
Individually, senior Anna Leigh ranks No. 5 in the Big 12 Conference and No. 11 regionally on floor exercise with a 9.858 average on the event. Also in the top 20 in the league are fifth-year senior Trinity Macy (No. 17 on bars) and sophomore Julia Brown (No. 17 on beam). Freshman Sophia Rice ranks No. 25 in the Big 12 on vault.
 
Last time out, WVU dropped its home-opening meet against Kent State, 193.775-192.325, inside the WVU Coliseum on Jan. 16. West Virginia tallied scores of 48.2 on vault, 48.75 on the uneven bars, 46.65 on balance beam and 48.725 on floor exercise. In the final event results, senior Brooke Alban and freshmen Karleigh DiCello and Sophia Rice tied for second place with matching 9.675 scores on vault. Senior Anna Leigh and fifth-year senior Trinity Macy tied for first place on bars with a pair of 9.825’s. Leigh also added a second-place finish on floor (9.825).
