MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team prepares to open its home slate in a dual meet against Kent State on Thursday, Jan. 16. Competition inside the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown is tabbed for 7 p.m. ET.
 
It’s 90’s Night at the WVU Coliseum, with 90’s throwback music playing throughout the meet. There also will be a band tee giveaway to the first 200 fans. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME to avoid lines at the gate on meet day.
 
Michael Minnich and Kaylyn Millick will have the call of Thursday’s meet on ESPN+. Live stats also are available at WVUsports.com.
 
West Virginia is 25-9 all-time against the Golden Flashes, with the two teams meeting for the first time in WVU’s second season of competition in 1975. The Mountaineers and Kent State last met on Jan. 28, 2024, in dual-meet competition in Kent, Ohio. West Virginia claimed a 194.825 – 194.05 victory at the meet. WVU and KSU have met in four of the last five seasons, dating back to 2021.
 
Last time out, WVU posted a team score of 193.75 to finish second in a dual meet at Central Michigan on Jan. 12. The host Chippewas took first place with a 193.95 to top the Mountaineers. West Virginia tallied scores of 48.1 on vault, 48.375 on the uneven bars, 48.425 on balance beam and 48.85 on floor exercise. The highlight of the meet was on floor, where senior Anna Leigh earned a career-high 9.95 to pace the lineup.
 
In the final event results, freshman Karleigh DiCello earned her first career podium finish with a win on vault (9.75). Sophomore Julia Brown finished second on beam (9.825), while classmate Amber Lowe (9.8) and DiCello (9.8) finished in a tie for third place. Leigh earned the floor title, the first of her career on the event, followed by freshman Emerson Smith in second (9.85).
 
Of note, Leigh was named the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week, as well as WVU’s Student-Athlete of the Week, for her performance at CMU.
 
In this week’s Road to Nationals rankings, the Mountaineers rank No. 50 overall in the second rankings of the 2025 season. Their highest event ranking is on floor, where they sit No. 26 with a season average of 48.913 on the event. Additionally, West Virginia is No. 4 in the Big 12 on floor. WVU ranks No. 43 on bars, No. 55 on vault and No. 58 on beam.
 
Individually, Leigh ranks No. 3 in the Big 12 Conference and No. 27 overall on floor exercise. Also in the top 15 in the league is Brown who ranks No. 13 on beam. Elsewhere, freshman Sophia Rice ranks No. 22 in the Big 12 on vault, while fifth-year senior Trinity Macy ranks No. 22 in the conference on bars.
