West Virginia (2-3) lost its third consecutive match after it struggled against the Rams. In doubles play, the pairing of senior Michaela Kucharova and freshman Laura Villaneuva Morillo had a strong performance, winning the No. 2 seed match, 6-3.

However, the Mountaineers were defeated in the No. 3 spot before narrowly losing the tiebreaker in the No. 1 seed match, 7-6 (4).

As the match moved into singles play, WVU struggled to find a rhythm. Senior Mille Haagensen earned the first win for the Mountaineers as her opponent retired in the first set.

Graduate student Julie Bousseau won the No. 2 seed singles match for West Virginia, putting the Mountaineers ahead, 2-1.

West Virginia lost the next four matches as VCU clinched the match.
