MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Fifth-year senior midfielder Lilly McCarthy of the West Virginia University women’s soccer team has been named to the 2024 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Third Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday.

The honor is the first of McCarthy’s career, while she becomes the first Mountaineer to receive the accolade since Jordan Brewster collected it in back-to-back seasons in 2021-22. With the award, McCarthy moves WVU’s total number of Scholar All-America honors to six all time.

In the classroom, McCarthy graduated with her bachelor’s degree in marketing last spring and is expected to graduate in May with her master’s in sport management. Prior to her Scholar All-America honor, the Baltimore, Maryland, native was named to the Academic All-District team by the College Sports Communicators earlier this month. A three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree, she also has appeared on the Big 12 Commissioner’s and Garrett Ford Academic Honor Rolls, as well as the Dean’s List during her time at West Virginia.

On the field, McCarthy led the Mountaineers with six assists this season, marking a single-season career high. She surpassed 30 career points with her assist in the regular-season finale at Houston on Oct. 25. McCarthy also scored four goals and tallied 14 points on the year, ranking third on the team in both categories. She earned the starting nod in all 20 matches and was fifth on the team with 1,299 minutes played. Additionally, she finished the year ranked No. 9 in the Big 12 Conference in assists.

In addition to being named to the All-Big 12 First Team, McCarthy also garnered All-Midwest Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches earlier this year.
