MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Anna Leigh of the West Virginia University gymnastics team has been named the Big 12 Conference Co-Event Specialist of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

The honor is the first Big 12 weekly award of Leigh’s career, as well as the second for a WVU gymnast this season after freshman Sophia Rice was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Week on Jan. 7. Additionally, Leigh earns the first event specialist nod since sophomore Jurnee Lane was named the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week last season on Jan. 30, 2024.

A native of St. Michael, Minnesota, Leigh posted a career-best 9.95 on floor exercise at Central Michigan on Jan. 12. She earned a perfect 10.0 from one judge and a 9.9 from the other to set a new career high. The total topped her previous career mark of 9.925, which she earned as a freshman on Feb. 21, 2022.

The score marked the highest for WVU on floor since Lane scored a 9.925 on Jan. 28, 2024, as well as the first 9.95 since Emily Holmes-Hackerd earned it on March 5, 2023.

With the total, Leigh tallied a first-place finish on floor, her first career win on the event. She now owns three event wins and 11 podium finishes in her career. In the Road to Nationals rankings, Leigh ranks No. 3 in the Big 12 Conference and No. 27 nationally on floor exercise.

West Virginia now looks ahead to its first home meet of the 2025 campaign when it welcomes Kent State to Morgantown on Thursday, Jan. 16. Competition inside the WVU Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. It’s 90’s Night, with a 90’s style band tee giveaway to the first 200 fans and 90’s throwback music played throughout the meet.
