MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University volleyball coach Jen Greeny has announced the addition of three student-athletes who will join the Mountaineers spring 2025 roster.
Joining the Mountaineers are Tally Grissom (Flower Mound, Texas), Nina Horning (Lake Orion, Michigan) and LonDynn Betts (Fort Wayne, Indiana).
Tally Grissom / Libero/Defensive Specialist / Flower Mound, Texas / Tulsa
Grissom hails from Flower Mound, Texas and comes to West Virginia after spending one season at Tulsa. At Tulsa, she appeared in 32 sets across 14 matches and was named a letterwinner during the 2024 season. The freshman tallied 82 digs on the year, averaging 2.56 digs per set. The libero dished out three double digit dig matches against Rice (15), Tulane (13) and Florida Atlantic (11). Prior to her time at Tulsa, she was a four-year letterwinner at Liberty Christian High School. At LCHS, Grissom helped her team to back-to-back Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) state titles as a junior in 2022 and a senior in 2023. She was also named to the all-state tournament team as well as the TAPPS 5A District 1 MVP, first team all-district, first team all-state and earned academic all-state honors. Additionally, the libero played club volleyball for the Madfrog 18 National Green team. Grissom was named to numerous watch lists including the 2023 AVCA All American Watch List, the 2023 Prep Volleyball Club All-American 17U Special Mentions list, as well as the 2022 and 2023 AVCA Phenom Watch Lists. The daughter of Kathy and Landon, Grissom plans to major in sports management.
Nina Horning / Outside Hitter / Lake Orion, Michigan / Cincinnati
A native of Lake Orion, Michigan, Horning comes to Morgantown after spending two years at Cincinnati. Horning appeared in 33 sets across 17 matches for the Bearcats. During her time at Cincinnati, the outside hitter collected 34 kills, averaging 1.03 kills per set while adding 13 total digs. Prior to her time at Cincinnati, the outside hitter was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Lake Orion High School, where she tallied 1,930 kills, setting the school’s record. Additionally, Horning recorded 703 kills at 5.80 kills per set as a senior and was named a finalist for the 2022 Miss Volleyball Award in Michigan. Horning garnished first team all-state recognitions twice and was named an AVCA All-American. Additionally, she aided in her team’s district and league championships as a junior. The outside hitter played club for the No. 1 team in Michigan and No. 3 team in the country, Legacy Volleyball club. She was also a two-time national champion and was named an AAU All-American. The daughter of Deb Murdock and Scott Horning, she plans to major in exercise physiology.
LonDynn Betts / Libero/Defensive Specialist / Fort Wayne, Indiana / Purdue Fort Wayne
Betts hails from Fort Wayne, Indiana and joins the Mountaineers after spending three seasons at Purdue Fort Wayne. During her time as a Mastodon, Betts appeared in 343 sets across 91 matches. During the 2024 season, she led her team in digs collecting 590 and averaging 4.84 per set, good enough to finish No. 13 nationally. Betts eclipsed the 1,000 career digs mark on Sept. 17, when she tallied 22 digs against Michigan State. She boasted a season high of 27 digs against Robert Morris on Sept. 27, tying the third most digs in a three-set match in the Mastodons program history. Additionally, the libero was named to the 2024 Popcorn Classic All-Tournament team. In 2023, she once again led her squad by totaling 525 digs at 4.57 per set. Her 4.57 digs per set ranked 10th most in a season at Purdue Fort Wayne. The libero earned a career-high 31 digs against Oakland on Sept. 19 and registered 10 or more digs in 28 matches. Additionally, she was named to the Ball State Invitational All-Tournament team. As a freshman in 2022, Betts was second on the team with her 307 digs. The libero notched a season-high with 25 digs against Cleveland State on Oct. 14 and accounted for 10 or more digs in 13 matches. Prior to her time at Purdue Fort Wayne, Betts played for coach Trish Miller at Concordia Lutheran High School for four years. As a senior, she tallied 1,715 digs while averaging 4.80 digs per set. The libero was named a two-time all state and all district selection, a four-time All Summit Athletic Conference pick, and an All-Northeast Indiana selection in 2020. Betts played club volleyball with Pineapple Volleyball (2013), Summit Volleyball (2014, 2016-21), Fort Wayne Volleyball Club (2015) and the Munciana Volleyball Club (2021-22). Additionally, she led her Munciana team to a Mid-Eastern Power League title and a Triple Crown championship. The daughter of Le’Kresia Outlaw and Mylon Betts, she plans to major in criminology with a minor in political science.
