MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Four student athletes from the West Virginia University track and field team joined the indoor top five performers list in their respective events at the Penn State National Open in University Park, Pennsylvania on Jan. 31 – Feb. 1.

Graduate student Sarah Tait became the second fastest Mountaineer in program history to run the women’s mile on Friday night, after posting a personal best time of 4:33.91. With the time, Tait secured a third-place finish and surpassed alum Keri Bland who holds the distinction of having earned the most All-America honors of any student athlete at West Virginia.

Classmate Madison Trippett boasted a time of 2:45.75 in her collegiate debut of the 1,000 meters, marking her as fourth fastest in WVU history.

Additionally, freshman Joy Naukot had her collegiate debut in the 3,000 meters and became the third fastest Mountaineer in program history with a time of 8:59.10, earning second place. Redshirt sophomore Olivia Cress moved to fifth all-time in the pentathlon, after collecting a score of 3710.

On Friday, freshman Sabria Jones laminated a personal best time of 7.86 seconds in the 60-meter dash. While her classmate, Carlene Temple finished third in her debut of the 600 meters, running for a time of 1:34.40.

West Virginia concluded competition on Saturday as redshirt freshman Lexi Lamb claimed fourth place in her collegiate track debut, with a time of 9:48.06 in the 3,000 meters. Additionally, classmate Kishay Rowe landed in third place with a time of 1:14.52 in the 500 meters.

The 4×400 meter relay team of sophomore Lily Haught, Temple, Rowe and Cress earned a second-place finish, collecting a time of 3:44.72.

In the field, redshirt sophomore Annishka McDonald had a season best outing in the high jump as she leaped for 1.71 meters.

Next, the Mountaineers will return to University Park on Feb. 8 for the Sykes & Sabock Challenge.  Friday’s meet will be held at the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
