It’s a crime against football that these Cincinnati Bengals won’t factor into the postseason. At least we get another primetime look at Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and this stirring offense, with the 4-8 Bengals as road favorites against the 5-7 Dallas Cowboys on “Monday Night Football.”

How to watch Bengals at Cowboys

Wait, really … Dallas has a better record than Cincinnati this year?

Both teams have endured weird seasons warped by misfortune. At least Burrow and Chase have been fun to watch. The fifth-year signal caller is doing scintillating stuff — he leads all passers in yards and touchdowns — while his No. 1 option tops all receivers in those same departments. The Bengals are averaging 35 points in their last four games, and two of those were against the Chargers and Steelers defenses. They are somehow 1-3 in that stretch.

In a zero-sum sport, Cincinnati’s defense is the obvious culprit for this wasted season. They are second-to-last in both points allowed and sacks recorded — that latter mark is truly hard to believe, considering Trey Hendrickson leads the league in sacks. While Burrow averages 21.6 fantasy points per game in standard scoring, QBs facing the Bengals are averaging 21.3. Yikes.

Dallas has cobbled together consecutive NFC East wins, and they are not officially eliminated from playoff contention. But no one is mistaking the Cowboys for a good team — it’s hard to be this bad at both rushing and run defense, and these guys dole out turnovers like party favors.

At least Micah Parsons is healthy. Since returning from a high ankle sprain, the menacing edge presence has 5.5 sacks in four games. Plus, fantasy football playoff hopefuls fixated on CeeDee Lamb’s injury status got good news after he aggravated his shoulder during the Thanksgiving game. Lamb is expected to play.

Oddsmakers see a high-scoring game, setting the second-highest point total of Week 14 action. Only Green Bay-Detroit was expected to go for more.
